Are Campaigns The Cause of McDonald’s Coming Clean?

weird man

Most of you heard about the McDonald’s Twitter Campaign that went wrong a couple weeks ago.  According to MSNBC McDonald’s has done away with the use of ammonia hydroxide, claims to have not used the chemical since August of last year and that their decision had nothing to do with Chef Jamie Oliver’s campaign.

I personally believe that Chef Jamie Oliver had a lot to do with their decision. There’s a lot to be said about the word “Expose”. Seeing as though they claim to have not used the chemical since last year, there’s no doubt that the #TwitterFail possibly challenged them to state it to the public. Will they ever tell us that? I doubt it. With that being said, I wonder why would they wait to come forward now, when they could have informed their customers when the change first took place.

Nonetheless, the Chef Jamie Campaign and the failed Twitter Campaign were because people were looking for change and/or wanted a platform to voice their opinion. No matter what the “Reason” is for changing, acknowledging that the voices were heard and you’re willing to make changes because of them, are never a bad thing.

Will Paula Deen’s Brand Lose Credibility?

By reason of Paula Deen confirming on Tuesday of having Type 2 Diabetes and announcing partnering with a reputable pharmaceutical company to help others with the disease, one can’t help speculate if this will tarnish her brand.  Having Diabetes doesn’t take away from who she is as a woman, cook, entrepreneur and success story.  However, not revealing it to her fans sooner is what may draw suspicion.  Paula Deen stated that she has known over 3 yrs of her diagnosis and she wanted to let everyone know now, that having diabetes is not a death sentence.

I’m sure many will like to know why wasn’t she willing to inform her fans sooner.  Of course she didn’t put a gun up to her viewers head and make them cook the dishes she prepared.  On the other hand, coming forward sooner and creating a different diet plan for herself and viewers would have been a wonderful way to guide her devotees in the right direction.  This situation is also a great example of how important it is to use our common sense and take individual responsibility for our own health.

Paula Deen is moving forward to help others with Type 2 Diabetes with a new program, “Diabetes In A New Light.”

Do you think keeping her Diabetes diagnosis a secret for over 3 years will hinder her brands credibility?
