Are You A Trendsetter?
I believe trendsetters are born. Anyone can pick up on a trend when it lands in their mailbox in the latest magazine, headlines complete with an eight page photographic spread. A trendsetter?! Trendsetters look for competitive advantages and position them self in the most likely spots to watch for emerging trends. With experience a trendsetter becomes skilled at spotting elusive and subtle shifts that signal a fashion change. Also, observation is not enough; trendsetters visualize and categorize what they see, matching that to the preferences and behavior of the consumers.

Splitcybernality: For someone interested in becoming a professional fashion designer, what are the first steps they should take in fulfilling their dream?
Shemeka: Designer, Diane Von Furstenberg says it best, “The important thing is to believe in what you do. Have a big dream and take small steps”. With that being said, here are some tips that will help anyone interested in becoming a fashion designer:
Tip #1 Earn your degree in Fashion Design -There is nothing more exciting than learning about your profession.
Tip #2 Knowledge - Take advantage of opportunities to visit factories, attend fabric shows and work with sample and pattern makers.
Tip #3 You will live, eat and breathe fashion - Designers work seven days a week, 12 or more hours a day, and have little time for friends, exercise, or vacation.
Tip #4 Stay true to your design ethics, try to be different and don’t follow trends. You can’t be everything to everybody.
Tip #5 Relationships- The fashion industry is based on relationships. Fashion is a small industry and everyone talks to everyone else. Word travels fast and with any interaction there’s an opportunity.
